My name is Chris Cappa, and I am the founder of Legacy Canine Collective. Originally from Hartford, Connecticut, I have resided in the Hampton Roads area for the past two decades. Throughout my life, canines have played a pivotal role in shaping both my personal fulfillment and professional achievements.
My early experiences caring for dogs developed into a specialized career that included handling Multi-Purpose Canines (MPC) as a United States Navy SEAL. In 2013, I enlisted in the Navy, where I set a clear objective to serve as a K9 handler for the SEAL Teams—allowing me to integrate my passion for working with dogs into meaningful service. As an MPC Handler, I gained expertise in the tactical deployment of canines within high-risk environments. Following my tenure as the Primary Canine Handler for SEAL Team X, I advanced to serve as the Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Naval Special Warfare Group 2 MPC Program.
In this capacity, I was responsible for overseeing training, instruction, evaluation, and certification of MPC teams, facilitating coordination between the program and SEAL platoons. These roles established the foundation for what would become Legacy Canine Collective.
Upon my separation from the Navy in 2022, my retired canine partner, MPC Miki, and I became Ambassadors for the Warrior Dog Foundation. We contributed to the development and launch of the Home with Handlers initiative, which is dedicated to supporting the well-being and transition of retired military and law enforcement dogs.
